Katherine’s work as an Intimacy Director is built on over a decade of stage directing experience, deep understanding of the power of touch, and a passion to create danger onstage through safety and communication. Based in the NYC area, she brings a consent-and community-based approach to her work. From generative play and musical development to large scale opera, Katherine’s visual storytelling expertise and strong collaboration skills provide a unique lens through which she builds the intimacy language for each production.
As a certified Intimacy Director with IDC Professionals, Katherine is committed to continued learning and growth as the industry expands. As an ID Katherine specializes in Intimacy Direction for Opera, utilizing her range of directing and assistant directing experiences in large AGMA houses and boutique New York Companies to bring Intimacy Direction into this beautiful art form. Her strong communication on vision, time management skills, and layered understanding of what we ask of singers is the strong foundation on which she builds. Katherine’s ability to read music, knowledge of the canon, and basic foreign language skills are always in her tool kit.
In addition to Intimacy Direction, Katherine offers customized workshops for graduate and undergraduate programs to create consent-forward spaces in academia. She has been a guest artist at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes School of Music at the New School. Katherine was also invited to lead intimacy workshops at the National Opera Association’s annual convention.
In the 2023-2024 season her work as an ID was seen at the Metropolitan Opera on the revival of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and the new productions of Champion and Don Giovanni. Most recently, Katherine created the intimacy for the new production of Carmen, which opened on New Year’s Eve 2024.
